Holmium

Happy First Day of School from Michigan! Here's to waking up at 4:30 in the morning and not getting home until around 8. Because I've scheduled this post to publish, I'll tell you more about my first week in coming posts, but in the meantime enjoy these education articles. They are an interesting lot - especially the last one. I usually read the NY Times, but I thought it would be great to find a new perspective, so the Wall Street Journal hit the spot.

Fun Fact: A slug of holmium, also called a pole piece, can be used to increase the intensity of a magnetic field. This is particularly useful for MRI scans, where a stronger magnet leads to better imaging.
